On Saturday the 31st of August we had the privilege to photograph Robert and Rhona’s Wedding at West Darlochan Farm, Campbeltown, Argyll, Scotland.
The weather was brilliant, and helped add to a great day even if I did get my bald head burned lol although from a photography perspective it was too good.
Let me explain, when I chat with the couples before the wedding they always say “Oh I hope it’s a nice sunny day” and I am like, well I hope it’s pretty cloudy…
You see, us photographers like clouds, not only do they add some element of interest to the sky rather than a boring blue sky they also play a huge role in diffusion the sun light.
If we can get nature to do the work for us rather than us having to add artificial light then I am all for that 🙂
Anyway, enough of that. Let’s get to the good bit, the Wedding.
Wedding at West Darlochan Farm – Bridal Preparations
Our day started off at the bride’s parents farm, West Darlochan. When we arrived the girls were well underway with their preparation with Emma McKinven from Wright Hair Wright Now on hair and Amy McKerral from Look Good Feel Good on make-up, and the ladies done a great job.
As what is now our standard operating procedure, Liz cracked on with the detail shots of the dresses, etc whilst I started to get some images of the girls getting hair and make-up done.
Just a few of the images below.
Groom Prep at Knocknaha Farm
The groom was having the groom prep at Knocknaha Farm and on arrival we got started straight away get with some detail shots then capturing the groom and groomsmen getting ready.
The lads were in good spirits and there was a lot of hilarity in the room, especially when it was time to get the kilts on.
A few of the images below.
Wedding at West Darlochan Farm – Wedding Ceremony
I have to admit it’s the first time I have had an open ceremony in a farmers field but it was so fitting for the bride and groom which added a nice sentimental value to their day.
Liz and I walked from the farm to the ceremonial field enjoying the short walk in the basking sunlight. Guests were gathering outside the marquee tent that had been setup just in case…we do live in the West Coast of Scotland so we can have all four seasons in one day.
The setup for the ceremony was brilliant. Chairs laid out perfectly for the guests, hay bails set out as decor, tractors parked up as background interest and a chopper machine setup with a hose as an arch, I have to say it was awesome so see and very unique.
As we arrive we start photographing the guests and I speak to Julie from Argyll and Bute Registrars just to make sure there isn’t anything that I shouldn’t be doing.
Having worked with Julie and the other girls quite a lot know we know how each other work and it’s now a quick chat then everyone gets to work, and as usual Julie held a beautiful service.
Wedding at West Darlochan Farm – Group Shots
After the ceremony we went straight into the group shots as discussed with Robert and Rhona beforehand.
Bride and Groom First Shoot
This was actually split into two parts, the first part was in the field with the tractors and chopper at West Darlochan then we headed to Knocknaha Farm for the second part.
We were told that the images from the shoot with the tractors will be sent to one of the farmers magazines to hopefully share, so there was no pressure there then lol.
The bride and groom wanted images from in a field just up from Knocknaha Farm looking out to the West, which looked out to Islay, Gigha and Jura, unfortunately there was a bit of atmospheric haze which reduced the visibility out to the West but we still captured some really nice images.
Wedding Reception at Dunaverty Village Hall
The wedding reception at Dunaverty village hall was next and it was kicked off with the speeches and then cutting the cake.
Bride and Groom First Dance
Bride and Groom Shoot at Dunaverty Beach
After the first dance we decided to head to Dunaverty beach to try and capture some nice colours in the sky at sunset.
We were a bit late but did manage to get a few minutes of colour before we went into blue hour.
There wasn’t actually an awful lot of posing from us as Robert and Rhona were having a great time so we let most of the shoot just flow naturally.
I absolutely love it when the bride and groom have a laugh and giggle with each other and show emotion in front of the camera, I just leave them at it and capture their natural feelings whilst every now and then directing them when need be.
Wedding Reception at Dunaverty Village Hall
Next up we headed back to capture the wedding reception at Dunaverty village hall.
Fling Party Band had the music going well and the dance floor busy so it was straight to work to capture everyone enjoying themselves.
Wedding at West Darlochan Farm – Conclusion
Another great Wedding for us to photograph and we love it when there is something different to shoot, which there was with the Ceremony and the first bride and groom shoot.
It was also nice to photograph the bride and groom outside in different locations which gives us plenty of options as photographers to choose from and work with.
We really enjoyed shooting most of the day outdoors, but I need to remind myself to pack some sun cream for my giant bald head lol.
If you are engaged and getting married soon then get in touch with us with regards to capturing your big day for you and creating memories for a lifetime.
